The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations

Le CRÉA (Centre d’Eveil Artistique) has been directed by founder Didier Grojsman since its opening in 1997. Located in Aulnay-sous-Bois - Seine-Saint-Denis district, near Paris -, the center’s primary mission is to promote dramatic arts – singing, movement, staging, and more – among the highly contrasted population of Aulnay-sous-Bois.

Bringing the arts into the classroom

In addition to hosting a chorus of 150 singers – who undergo no audition or selection process – in an intensive artistic undertaking, Le CRÉA has for a number of years developed initiatives in the schools to promote artistic education and awareness. It uses a creative and participatory approach to bring the arts and culture into the classroom.

Bolstered by the success of its efforts, in September 2012 Le CRÉA launched an innovative, intergenerational program with the support of the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations, the Cultural Affairs Department (DRAC) of the Ile-de-France region, the General Council, the French National Education Ministry and the city of Aulnay-sous-Bois. This program is truly school-centric in that it is supported by the principals of the participating schools and implemented by the teachers of selected classes.

This program meets with the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations’ ambition to provide access to artistic activities for as many people as possible. Uniting different generations from diverse backgrounds, taking part in the creation of a collaborative work of art, and performing on stage all help children gain the confidence they need for personal development. As for the parents and adults who are part of this adventure, they learn how to view their children, their schools, their city and the arts in general with a new light.

The Edmond de Rothschild Foundation accompany Le CREA on its overall mission

Since 2013, the Foundations have been supporting the CREA on its growth and nationwide coverage. Strategic partner, they continue to accompany Le CREA on its social and cultural mission and promote education through arts.
