The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations

The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations join the Ribermusica Foundation in Barcelona in a very important mission: using music to stimulate intercultural dialogue that will promote exchange among different generations and communities who all live in the same neighborhood.

Ribermusica, weaving social fabric through music

The Ribermusica Foundation, created in 1995 in the well-known Ribera neighborhood of Barcelona, took as its inspiration the project developed by José Antonio Abreu: “Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela.” Following the same guiding principle – to provide access to music for young people from underprivileged backgrounds – the Ribermusica team adapted their project to life in Barcelona. In the Ribera neighborhood, which has witnessed numerous waves of immigration, various African, Latin American and Asian communities live side by side.

In addition to offering a wide range of music workshops, the Ribermusica Foundation strives to protect and raise awareness about the neighborhood’s rich heritage. It allows children and adolescents to learn the basics of music while making them a part of their own traditional and modern cultures. Professional teachers supervise the workshops and help students put on performances that bring the neighborhood to life.

Each autumn, Ribermusica organizes the Festival de Tardor, a music festival featuring amateur and professional musicians performing in historic Ribera settings.

The Foundations contribute to the creation of the music school

The Ribermusica Foundation’s objective is to create a real music school in the Ribera neighborhood – a place for encounters, cultural exchange and learning, where the social tissue that gives the neighborhood vitality is woven.

The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations support this project by making it possible for new violin workshops to be organized, enriching the class offering and attracting many new students.

By reaching more students, Ribermusica hopes to develop an orchestra of young musicians, which through its musical quality, originality and commitment will facilitate the opening of the music school. Students from different workshops will thus be able to play together and perform in various artistic venues, providing an excellent way to showcase the neighborhood’s historical heritage, sense of pride and cultural dynamism.

Our Foundations welcome this grass-roots partnership nourished by genuine social awareness and enthusiasm for democratic culture.
