A unique opportunity: the artist in residence program
The Ariane de Rothschild Prize was launched in Portugal in 2003 to encourage the development of the practice of contemporary art. Following three consecutive editions in Portugal, the Prize was organized in other European capitals for the arts: Brussels in 2008, followed by Milan in 2011.
Since 2008, the prize has grown in ambition to offer more than a simple monetary award. It enables the prizewinner to attend a prestigious school as artist in residence, combining the study of artistic theory and practice. In this respect, the Prize sets itself apart from many other international competitions. Although artists need financial support to develop their work, education and training are equally essential.
