The Ariane de Rothschild Art Prize

The Ariane de Rothschild Art Prize is designed to discover and support emerging young artists in Europe by providing an artistic residency at a prestigious fine arts school. One of the truly original features of the Ariane de Rothschild Art Prize is the creation of an international jury to identify young artistic talent. The winning young artist is given an exceptional opportunity: to pursue work in the studio combined with theoretical training at a prestigious fine arts school.

A unique opportunity: the artist in residence program

The Ariane de Rothschild Prize was launched in Portugal in 2003 to encourage the development of the practice of contemporary art. Following three consecutive editions in Portugal, the Prize was organized in other European capitals for the arts: Brussels in 2008, followed by Milan in 2011.

Since 2008, the prize has grown in ambition to offer more than a simple monetary award. It enables the prizewinner to attend a prestigious school as artist in residence, combining the study of artistic theory and practice. In this respect, the Prize sets itself apart from many other international competitions. Although artists need financial support to develop their work, education and training are equally essential.

The Ariane de Rothschild Prize: a springboard for emerging talent

The 2011 edition of the Prize, held in Milan, marks the fifth time the Ariane de Rothschild Foundation will provide a springboard for the talent of emerging young artists. This new event upholds the original philosophy of the Prize while building on previous editions. It also features a new addition: a network of ambassadors who will assist the Foundation and the curators to convey the values and objectives of the Prize, and who will continue to support the young Italian artists after the exhibition.
