The Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program

By providing the opportunity for talented female scholars to pursue their research, the Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program promotes gender equality within the academic world. The Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program awards four outstanding female doctoral students scholarships to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJ). Addressing the continuing under-representation of women in Israeli higher education, the scholarships are designed to enhance the academic standing of talented women scholars in a variety of fields.

Balancing scholarly achievement and family life

While Israel is home to an array of outstanding women scholars, the Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program recognizes that they face obstacles on the path to success. With a high cultural value placed on family life, many Israeli women already have children by the time they reach the post-graduate level.

This situation often forces bright female scholars to give up their academic careers in order to support their families. The Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program helps these women be able to pursue their research and also attend to their families’ needs by offering four-year doctoral scholarships covering full tuition and living expenses.

The Foundations and HUJ combine academic excellence and community involvement

The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations place philanthropy at the core of the Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program. To this end, HUJ scholarship recipients are encouraged to contribute to educational programs during or after their studies.

By offering scholarship recipients the opportunity to give back to the community, the Ariane de Rothschild Women Doctoral Program perpetuates the spirit of community involvement, equality and academic excellence.
