IIP has created an investment vehicle with the goal of facilitating access to health services in India, where 75% of the population has very limited access to Western medicine. In rural areas, 46% of those who are ill are forced to travel more than 100 km to seek care in a huge country where healthcare infrastructure remains seriously underdeveloped.
IIP will provide necessary funding for growth in businesses that are developing a sustainable economic model and demonstrate an ability to deliver health products and services at affordable prices to low-income populations in India. IIP will especially target clinics, training and diagnostic centers, medical equipment manufacturers and water treatment companies.
Poor access to healthcare in India and steady growth in the sector represent a unique opportunity for responsible, demanding investors in the form of impact investing. Based on a dual objective of social and financial results and driven by philanthropic and financial expertise, this model is one that the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations would like to develop further.
IIP’s founding partners provide recognized experience in helping companies striving to deliver both financial and social results in emerging markets related to health, energy, water, agriculture, education and housing.
The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations’ partnership with IIP confirms their innovative position and takes their commitment to developing professional and strategic philanthropy to an important new level.
“Through this innovative pooling of sought-after skills, our Foundations can make private equity work for sustainable social impact,” highlighted Ariane de Rothschild at the announcement of the endeavor.
