This year, 500 social entrepreneurs applied for the Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship. Candidates were pre-screened and those selected underwent a telephone interview and an interview before a jury of members from the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations, the Judge Business School and King’s College, along with an alumni network member. The 23 fellows were selected through this process.
As a result, the network has been joined by a very talented class of fellows working in a wide range of social sectors and enterprises: theater-based English classes for underprivileged youth, soup kitchens for the dogs of homeless people, an online fair-trade and organic shopping site, a bicycle manufacturing company offering social rehabilitation opportunities and a firm that promotes employment diversity.
The 23 selected fellows met at Cambridge University for two weeks of intensive training focused on social entrepreneurship and the social sciences, with workshops on marketing and strategy as well as on the history of “Jews and Muslims in Christian Europe,” Islamism and Zionism.
The Fellows also received one-on-one coaching and took part in dialogue sessions and visits to synagogues and mosques. They can later join the professional alumni network www.adrfn.com, and become ambassadors for groundbreaking and effective cross-cultural dialogue.
