An original approach: combining OsiriX imaging software and 3D/4D visualization
In partnership with Artères Foundation and working with the team of Dr. Mendes Pereira, the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations decided to:
• use OsiriX imaging software applications ;
• develop and combine them with 3D/4D visualization materials ;
• add an image-guided intra-operatory navigation system.
Medical imaging in the operating room is extremely important because, in addition to these improvements, it opens up new possibilities to treat conditions that up to now had been considered “inaccessible”. The success of this project may lead to more positive treatment outcomes for neurological diseases.
OsiriX: Medical software that drives major breakthroughs
OsiriX is an example of open-source software developed for free by a group of researchers and managed by a foundation. Currently used by over 50,000 professionals across the globe, it is the most widely adopted platform
in the medical world for the visualization and analysis of medical images.
The Foundation aims to promote the development of this open-source software in medicine – through the OsiriX Plugin Awards – for no commercial gain.
